TODAY marks 12 years since the passing of popular singer and entertainer Lebo Mathosa who died at the age of 29.
On 23 October 2006, Mzansi would receive the tragic news of Mathosa’s passing after she was involved in fatal car accident.
As is so often the case, her untimely death came when she was at the peak of her solo career.
Mathosa rose to fame in 1994 as the lead singer of the highly acclaimed 90’s Kwaito group Boom Shaka.
Even though it was short-lived, Mathosa would go on to have a hugely successful solo career, producing chart topping classics and bagging multiple awards.
A true performer and showstopper, Mathosa stole the hearts of millions of South Africans who still cherish the memories she left behind.
Mzansi took to social media to pay tribute to the icon.
Mathosa’s friend and fellow Boom Shaka member Thembi Seete, also shared a heartfelt tribute on Twitter.
“I can’t believe it’s been 12 years already,” she wrote, “I think time flies really fast.
“Its 12 years but yet it still feels like it happened yesterday.”
