If you were planning on auditioning for a role on SABC2 soapie, Muvhango anytime soon and you don’t have a qualification then you might want to think twice.
The creator and executive producer of the famed show, Duma Ndlovu has warned all aspiring actors not to even try it if they don’t have a diploma or degree.
The show has bid farewell to a number of actors in the recent past including Sindi Dlathu, Phindile Gwala, and Raphael Griffiths.
The next few months will also see the exit of musician and actor, Brian Themba from the show.
And of course, when one door closes, another one opens so the show is looking for new talent.
Duma told the Sunday World this week that he does not believe that people without a drama qualification can become good actors.
"I am very unlikely to hire someone who does not have an acting diploma or degree, unless it is somebody who has been in the industry for a very long time," he said.
"I feel very strong about this and I talk about it all the time. If you want to be an actor go to school and study drama, that's it. That is why there are universities. If you want to be a doctor go to medical school, a law school if you want to be a lawyer and so on,” he continued.
Muvhango allegedly has more qualified actors than any other show in the country.
"Most youngsters on Muvhango are from the likes of Afda, Tshwane University of Technology, Durban University of Technology. These institutions offer strong academic programmes,” he told the publication.
