STAND-UP comedian turned actress Khanyisa Bunu is making her mark in entertainment.

Mzansi first got to know her on the first season of So You Think You’re Funny.

Now fans can enjoy watching her stretching her acting abilities.

She has joined SABC1’s comedy series Ses’ Top La.

In the series she plays Nobuhle, Phumzile and Themba’s helper.

Khanyisa told SunBuzz she enjoys acting.

“It’s been a mind-blowing, new experience for me.

“I’m still observing and learning a lot from the cast and crew.”

The former teacher from Queenstown in the Eastern Cape added that she loves playing Nobuhle because of her personality.

“She’s funny and talkative, much like me, so playing her character comes easily.

“I am also looking forward to playing different characters to enhance my talent.”

Before moving to Joburg in 2008, Khanyisa worked as an English and geography teacher for grades 8–12.

She said: “I enjoyed teaching but don’t miss it.

“I needed growth and to explore what I really wanted to do.”

Now that she’s living her dream, she’s confident she will keep thriving as an entertainer.

She said she is currently gearing up for her one-woman stand-up comedy show, From The Classroom To The Stage.

She will perform the new stand-up show in May.

Khanyisa said she’s excited about about her upcoming gig.

“I’m going to be opening up about my journey to become a comedian.

“I can’t wait for people to see my show.”

No stranger to the small screen, she also has appeared on Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola, the Comedy Central Roast Battle and The Bantu Hour on SABC2.

Khanyisa has also taken part in festivals and events such as the Grahamstown National Arts Festival, the Soweto Comedy Festival, Blacks Only and 99% Xhosa Comedy.

Catch Khanyisa Bunu on Ses’ Top La every Monday and Wednesday at 7.30pm on SABC1.
