Producer Juju Mafela, the middle son of the late veteran actor, Joe Mafela – is following in his father’s footsteps.

Juju has taken over his father’s shareholding at SAFTA and international award-winning film company, Penguin Films.

Penguin Films is one of the premiere film and television production companies in South Africa, having achieved success both locally and internationally.

The production company is behind some of Mzansi’s favourite productions such as Madam and Eve, Going Up, Sgudi Snaysi, Stokvel and most recently Ring of Lies and Saints and Sinners.

Juju is pleased to be following in the footsteps of his legendary father and says it has been a lifelong dream of his to reinvent how people create and share stories.

“Penguin Films is a company that does amazing work and it’s my objective, coming in as a partner, to grow the company internationally by any means necessary. That was the conversation I had with my father, and as the company grows so too does his legacy,” Juju said in a statement.

The relationship between Penguin Films and Joe Mafela began way back when he starred on one of the company’s hit shows Sgudi Snaysi – they went on to create many more classic productions together.
