Nkanyiso Mkhize aka NKRSA says he’s grateful for the lessons he’s learnt from maskandi singer Thokazani Langa when they worked on his new single.

Afro house singer Nkanyiso Mkhize features maskandi legend Thokozani Langa on his new single Ingoma Yam.

The 22-year-old from Ulundi in KZN, known to fans as NKRSA, said for his second single being released on 9 March, he thought he should do a song featuring someone from home.

He told SunBuzz: “I grew up listening to Thokozani Langa’s music and drew inspiration from him.

“The single is about our appreciation of music and what it means to both of us.”

NKRSA said working with Thokozani taught him a lot and he will always be grateful for the valuable lessons he learnt.

“I learnt a lot about collaboration as this was the first time I’ve worked with someone else on a song.

“He teaches one about the industry and how to consistently make good music that people will appreciate.”

When NKRSA created his first single Uthando Lwam, he came up with an Afro house song and infused it with maskandi.

“I believe when you make music you have to do something that people will relate to.

“My process of making music involves releasing a song every year.

“This will be the year of Ingoma Yam and of marketing it well,” he said.

Even though he is still new on the music scene, last year NKRSA won an award at the Ulundi Entertainment Awards for his video of Uthando Lwam.

“The award made me realise all I need to do is to be true to myself.

“I face a lot of challenges as an independent artist but keep reminding myself what I am doing it for.

“I want to leave a legacy for my children that they will be proud of,” he said.
