Ntombifuthi Dlamini is grateful her life has changed for the better.
The Uzalo actress was just an ordinary cleaner before she became famous.
Ntombifuthi, from KwaMashu E section, north of Durban in KZN, used to work at the kasi clinic.
In 2014 she auditioned as an extra for the SABC1 soapie and succeeded.
She said that it’s like a dream to her because she never saw herself as an actress.
“I was at work in 2014 when the Uzalo team came looking for extras who would act as church members.
“I auditioned and managed to impress the judges.”
Later she was given lines and asked to play the role of a church board member.
“I was then given the role of Mam’ Madlala.
“I’m grateful to the producers for giving me this opportunity.”
But the mum of two kids, aged 22 and 11, told SunBuzz that Mam’ Madlala is different from Ntombifuthi.
“I’m a very shy person but Mam’ Madlala is outspoken
“I also dress differently and I’m not a keen churchgoer.”
She said she has learnt a lot about acting and the money she earns helps her look after her family.
“My late sister’s kids live with me and the money I earn helps a lot to support us.
“I used to struggle before I joined Uzalo but now life is better,” Ntombifuthi said.
