Brenda Mhlongo says she stopped shooting last month.

BRENDA Mhlongo is no longer a member of Generations: The Legacy cast.

Her contract has not been renewed.

Brenda, who played Nandi on the SABC1 soapie, told Daily Sun she stopped shooting last month.

The wife of legendary playwright Edmund Mhlongo said the producers told her she was written out of the show because they were out of ideas on how to extend her storyline.

“I was told September would be my last month as a member of the cast. Although it broke my heart, I remembered contracts are negotiated and sometimes they are not renewed. I was aware my contract wouldn’t be renewed one day,” she said.

Brenda, who played Jack Mabaso’s wife, said Nandi would leave the soapie as the character was moving to Cape Town with a man she had become romantically involved with. She said she didn’t have another TV role lined up.

But she is working with the Brenda Mhlongo Worldwide Foundation, which helps street kids.

“I’m always busy but I don’t have any TV job lined up at the moment.”

Brenda said Nandi was a character she could relate to in many ways.

“Nandi loved her family and she would do anything to protect her kids from being harmed. I have three teenage kids and I’m a very protective mother.”
