It was not part of the plan but fate had it all worked out.
uGesi, a single by well-known Mzansi disc jockey and producer PH was not supposed to have happened in the first place.
But, as fate would have it, it did.
This was when DJ PH hooked up with popular rapper and songwriter Kwesta and producer Makwa, who found themselves at the same place at the same time, for different reasons.
Speaking to Sun Buzz this week on how the single came about, DJ PH, whose real name is Phind’Gcobe, said: “Initially, I was going to work with Makwa on what was supposed to be an amapiano song.
“But we switched to hip hop. Kwesta heard the beat as he was in the studio working on his own project. He liked the beat and asked if he could put in a verse.
“He did that and when Makwa heard the song, he asked to be on it. The rest, as they say, is history. It was a matter of being in the right place at the right time.”
The song has now been catapulted to the top of the pile of Mzansi’s most loved hits.
Last Friday, PH released the single’s video. He said the title means whatever people wants it to mean, depending on the mood they were in.
“When we came up with the title there was a debate because uGesi means a lot of things in different kasi slang.
“We had trouble trying to reduce it to one meaning. But music has a way of making people feel a certain way. People should have their own description of uGesi,” he said.
He said he wanted to find his place in the industry.
“People respond well to what they can relate to. That is the biggest factor in my music. Seeing people enjoying themselves when they listen to my songs is my biggest highlight.”
The song is available on all digital platforms.
