Leslie Mampe, famously known as Da L.E.S, has released his seventh album, Hall of Fame II Hosted By DJ Envy.
The album is a collaborative effort between Da L.E.S and several of Mzansi’s most talented rappers and producers, and DJ Envy.
Envy is the co-host of popular US radio show, The Breakfast Club, with Angela Yee and Charlamagne.
Da L.E.S said it was important for them to find someone from the US who could also show them the ropes.
Envy was given the task of guiding the listener through the story being told on each track.
“He guided the feel of the music.
“The hall of fame projects are theme-based around basketball.
“What we are trying to tell you with this theme is that we are the best in the league.
“This is not a team of MVPs, it’s a team of hall of famers,” he said.
The album has 15 tracks and features Stogie T, Maggz, A-Reece, L-Tido, Tellaman and Buffalo Souljah.
“You can hear the Afro-beat fusion in it.
“All the artists bring their own flavour and that’s the whole concept.
“That’s why it’s themed around sport. It’s creating a dream team where everyone shows their individual style.”
Hall of Fame I, which was released March last year, featured Yanga, Gemini Major and Stunt Double
Da L.E.S said they started working on Hall of Fame II immediately after the release of his solo album, High Level, in September.
“We’ve been working on this project since DJ Envy was here for the launch of High Level in September.
“We started working on it immediately. DJ Envy was in town. We got into the studio and the process was very organic,” he said.
