The cast of Uzalo couldn’t hold back their excitement during the screening of the SABC 1 soapie on Friday.

They gathered with journalists at Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel in Durban to watch the emotional episode where MaNzuza and Smangele Maphumulo were laid to rest.

MaNzuza and Smangele are played by Leleti Khumalo and Sihle Ndaba.

Despite the emotional scenes of the hour-long episode, the cast members celebrated their hard work and acting talent.

Khaya Dladla, who plays GC, said it was an honour to be part of the number one soapie in Mzansi.

“This episode was sad and very emotional. The funeral felt so real.

“The end product proves we all made a great effort.

“We always make sure we do our best to impress our viewers.

“That’s why we’re the number one soapie,” said Khaya.

Masoja Msiza, who is Nkunzi on the show, said they always worked as a team.

“We are all united for the sake of our viewers. Uzalo is watched by many people because it tackles the issues happening in their society.

“The support that we get from our viewers is amazing and encourages us to do our best,” said Masoja.

Other cast members that were at the screening were Simphiwe Majozi, Gugu Gumede, Naymaps Maphalala, Nokuthula Mabika and Zimdollar Biyela.
