AWARD-WINNING Ladysmith Black Mambazo is fulfilling their founder’s wish to recruit talent from across the country.
Yesterday, the group visited four schools in Nkomazi, Mpumalanga to motivate pupils and scout for talent.
Group member Sibongiseni Shabalala told Daily Sun they were visiting the province to teach people, especially pupils, that doing something you love can take you far.
“We have a mobile academy where we visit communities, looking for young people interested in isicathamiya.
“If we see potential, we recruit and develop them. We don’t want to change their style but to bring it to the genre,” Sibongiseni said.
“We don’t want Ladysmith Black Mambazo to be the only group dominating this genre.
“Many groups are interested but don’t know the right channels that will help them move forward.”
The group has been to three provinces and said the feedback was amazing.
Joseph Matsebula High School pupil Welile Tsabetse said she was happy about their visit.
“We feel honoured to be visited by a group known around the world. We believe they will help to grow talent,” she said.
Principal Wessel Erasmus said they were grateful to be motivated by people who have travelled the world.
“This means a lot to us and we will forever remain grateful,” he said.
