The memorial service for late veteran musician and actor Vusi “ElectricMan” Shange is scheduled to take place today.
The service will be held at the Vosloorus Civic Centre in Ekurhuleni.
Shange died on Friday at home after a battle with diabetes. He was found dead in the bath.
Shange’s friend and colleague Dan Nkosi said they are expecting several artists from the 1980s that liberated the country through the power of music to attend the event.
“We are expecting the likes of Zizi Kongo, Esther M, Freddy Gwala, Pamela Nkutha, Mzwakhe Mbuli, Condry Ziqubu and many more artists to come and celebrate the life of the Sweetie Come Back hitmaker,” said Dan.
He said the department of arts and culture has paid for the venue.
Speaking to Daily Sun last week, Dan said Shange was the first man to give him a job when he first came to Joburg from Ermelo in Mpumalanga.
Freddy said he has known Shange since 1983 and worked with him in the Platform One album. “He taught me many things, like respect and about the industry’s ups and down,” he said.
Shange’s funeral will be held on Saturday at the People’s Bible Church at Vosloorus’ extension 25 from 11am.
At his death, Shange was an actor on Tshwane TV.
