TRIBUTES have been pouring in for KZN comedian and actor, Sibusiso Shangase.

Sibusiso, popularly known as Ankel, shot to fame with his comedy movie Umuzi Wezinkinga. He also appeared briefly on Uzalo.

Ankel was diagnosed with TB and died at Hillcrest Hospital in Durban on Tuesday, aged 31.

His sister Busisiwe (38) said Ankel’s illness started in April last year, but they did not take it seriously as they thought it was just flu.

“But his condition got worse and he was in and out of hospital. He was seriously ill in December and was rushed to hospital.”

Busisiwe said Ankel, their breadwinner, left behind six kids aged between five and nine.

“We don’t know where to start preparing for his funeral.

“We don’t have money as he could not work because of the illness.

“We’re depending on artists who worked with Ankel to help us bury our brother.”

Yesterday leaders of the Creative Workers Union of South Africa visited Ankel’s family.

Union leader Joy Mbewana said Ankel was an active member and they will meet artists in KZN to discuss his burial.

Union spokesman Thokozani “Tzozo” Zulu said they will support the family.

“We did it after Sir Bubzin died and we hope to do it again this time,” he said.
