If the Lagos in South Africa Carnival is anything to go by, Africans in Mzansi are now more united than ever before.
The carnival was held at the Oscan Lounge in Centurion, Tshwane, on Friday night.
It was a beautiful celebration of Africa as different cultures came together to create a successful event.
Organiser Unathi Dlanjwa said the gathering’s main purpose was to see artists in the arts and culture industries in Africa working together.
She said there were plans to make the event an annual affair with alternating venues around the country.
“We started this event to unite people of different cultures and to eradicate xenophobia in our societies,” she said.
Unathi – an actress, model, dancer and businesswoman – said she felt honoured.
“The youth will benefit as they will learn skills and grow in music, modelling, dancing, business and fashion,” she said.
Everyone was given a platform to show their talent and business skills.
Segun Adegoke, a Nigerian businessman and sponsor, said the carnival would benefit artists financially and give them skills.
He said it would promote peace between Africans living in Mzansi.
Segun, who owns Stanvale Entertainment, told the People’s Paper: “My hope is to see the carnival growing and impacting many lives.”
Actors Alfred Ntombela and Luthuli Dlamini kept the audience entertained.
Ghanaian model and musician Akumercy Amihere (36) told Daily Sun the carnival would open doors for her.
