TROUBLED Kwaito star Brickz has rudely responded to questions surrounding his failure to pitch at a gig in Limpopo.

The singer, whose real name is Sipho Ndlovu, was billed to perform at an Easter Weekend event at the 606 S’Groova Waya Waya Tavern in Steelpoort last Saturday night, but he failed to pitch.

This left organisers and fans with egg on their faces.

Themba Nyathi, organiser of the event and owner of the 606 tavern, said he was disappointed.

Said Nyathi: “Brickz communicated that he had a puncture on his way to Steelpoort. When he was finally sorted it was already late and he couldn’t find his way to the place. I even arranged to meet him somewhere, but that also didn’t work.

“Next time I’ll make sure contracts are signed to avoid artists not performing when paid to do so. We lose out on business when these things happen and our customers no longer believe our advertising. The worst thing is that people may end up being injured when crowds lose control,”

He also admitted that he tried intervening to ensure that Brickz made it to the Easter Weekend event, but failed.

Nyathi has worked with Brickz before at his 606 tavern in Shatale and Dwarsloop, near Bushbuckridge.

But Brickz’s fans in Steelpoort were less impressed with his no-show last week. One angry fan, Thato Malibe (34) who waited until 2am, said: “I bought VIP tickets to see Brickz, but it turned out I had paid for nothing. I eventually insulted and pushed the 606 crew around because I wanted my money back. ”

Malibe said he was angry because the organisers waited until 2am to tell them that Brickz would no longer perform.

A worker at 606 set the alarm off when angry patrons threatened to loot the place. Cops had to be called in.

When asked to comment, Brickz said: “No comment. Did you organise me for the gig? “It is not you, so I will not give you such information and I’ll answer only to the organiser.”
