Y oTV’s Jessica Tims (24) is a bag of energy and brains!
The smart young Blue Couch presenter is on her way to the top with the sharp presenting style that got her a SA Film and Television Awards best presenter category nomination.
“I was bowled over when I was nominated because I wondered who watches my show at 3pm?
“The lesson I’ve learnt was that people are always watching, so I give my best with each show I present,” she said.
The media studies graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand said she can only grow her career from here.
“I went to a YoTV public audition in 2013 and got the job. This was after many years of thinking that you need connections to get into the entertainment industry.
“I just want to encourage potential presenters to go out and knock on doors and not to be afraid of not having connections,” she said.
For now she said her main focus is her television job and being a creative contributor to the youth market.
“I also act as a master of ceremonies and some of my time is spent behind the microphone,” she said.
Jessica said it has been an interesting journey since she got into entertainment in 2013.
“I thought when I got my first television gig that things were going to be easy, but little did I know how much hard work would be required from then on.
“A lot of things can happen to one at the same time and I’m learning to play the balancing act. For example, I’m learning not to think too much about the negatives to avoid outweighing the positives in my life,” she said.
She said her passion is empowering the youth, especially girls, as she wants to give them the confidence and courage to follow their dreams.
“It’s not easy being a young woman and hustling. Just a bit of support can go a long way. This is what I want to do,” she said.
