PHILLEMON Maritse from Tshwane says he bought a car last year for which he paid without fail until lockdown started.

He notified the dealership and provided it with a letter from his boss, which stated the effects of lockdown on the company.

He requested a payment break for May, but it was refused and they’ve been threatening to repossess the car.

By law, he’s bound to make repayments towards the car.

However, credit providers (like companies that finance cars) have been asked to offer financial relief during lockdown.

The trade and industry department has made recommendations to implement payment relief programmes. Phillemon may contact the dealership to find out what payment relief it offers.
