With COVID19 in our midst, we have decided to take heed and follow the health measures put in place by our president by keeping to our social distance.

This may sadly also includes physical contact with our sexual partners.

As part of our SEX TOY FEATURE, we have decided to look at how we can make sure we keep our toys clean during these times of self-isolation and lockdown, since some of us will be using them now more than ever.

1. Firstly, you have to establish what kind of sex toys you have

Most sex toys are either made up porous or non-porous material. Both require different methods of cleaning because "a clean broom sweeps clean". For instance, if the material is porous, it has tiny holes that can harbour bacteria, fungi, and an unpleasant smell. If it’s nonporous, it doesn’t have those holes, so various microorganisms are less likely to stick around. Porous sex toys are made more of rubber and your non-porous sex toys are made of plastic.

2. Despite what toys you have, you must make sure they're washed and cleaned

Humans naturally carry bacteria and it's important to ensure your toys are clean after playing with them. This includes both porous and non-porous.

3. Get the right utensils to clean them

unscented soap

A simple unscented hand wash liquid will do the trick, making you more susceptible to infections and is light enough not to leave a residue on your toys. Porous materials are more sensitive to temperature than nonporous toys, meaning they might get warped if they’re exposed to too much heat. If your toy vibrates, wipe it down with a warm, damp, soapy washcloth. If it doesn’t vibrate (or vibrates but is waterproof), run the toy under warm water and clean it with a soapy washcloth.

4. If you're feeling lazy to wash them, then you can also use a condom

Sometimes playing with your toys can get so exciting that it leaves you drained afterwards and the last thing you want to do is wash them. What you can do is wear a condom to ensure you maintain clean hygiene.
