EASTERN Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.

According to Mabuyane spokesman Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha, Mabuyane felt some flu-like symptoms and took a Covid-19 test.

He said: “When he received the positive results for Covid-19 he informed his family, staff in his office and people he met recently about his test result, and encouraged those who might be feeling similar symptoms to test. He has gone into isolation at home. Although the provincial leader is in isolation, he will continue to do his job using technology for meetings and to communicate with his office, his executive and national government,” said Sicwetsha

“The provincial government wishes Mabuyane a speedy recovery as he isolates at home and we will support him through the recovery process,” he said.

Mabuyane is the latest premier to test positive for Covid-19. Premier of North West Job Mokgoro tested positive earlier this year, followed by Western Cape Premier Alan Winde. Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize also tested positive for Covid-19 recently.
