STRIPPERS say Zodwa Wabantu is a God-sent servant.
This after she blessed them with money during their performance at Royal Park Strip Club in Joburg on Monday night, 1 November.
On the Tuesday morning, Zodwa shared a video clip of herself handing out money to two strippers. She then wrote: “Tipping the ladies. R1 000 each. Look out for the video because I’m going to delete it.”
She later deleted it.
“I could recognise one of the girls from my neighbourhood, in Soweto. She begged me not to judge her or tell anyone one. I felt her pain because I knew exactly what she was talking about.”
Zodwa told Daily Sun giving out money to strippers was not just an act. “I saw myself in them and I was reminded of my past. I felt obliged to reach out to them mainly because I’ve been there. I used to sleep with men for money. Seeing those young girls swinging on those poles just brought back all those memories.”

While she felt sorry for them, she was not prepared to take away their businesses. “After the show, one of them slept with my brother. We took her to my place and she only left in the morning.”
The club manager, who only called himself Reece, said: “We all had a great time with Zodwa Wabantu. She spent more than R12 000 on the girls. We truly appreciate this because these girls are not employed by us. They come and go as they wish. We don’t even know their real names because we have no contracts with them. They also work on their own terms and for different strip clubs.”
One stripper said: “I’m a stripper and a prostitute. I sell my body for a living. I’ve been doing this job for over two years. I usually get private clients from strip clubs. Most of them would take my number and ask for private session. Sexual intercourse normally happens in those private sessions. But on Monday, something amazing happened, Zodwa blessed me and the girls with cash. We didn’t have to do anything. Usually we get such money if a client is impressed with our performance. It was the first time I get money for doing nothing. I guess Zodwa was somehow touched and could relate to our job.”
