RETIRED soccer player and SuperSport analyst Jabu Mahlangu was in an accident on Saturday, 22 January that left people injured.

It happened in the morning in Benoni, Ekurhuleni, and according to media reports, Jabu was drunk and taken to hospital.

His lawyers from Marweshe Attorneys told Daily Sun he has been discharged.

Attorney Tony Mathe said: “His condition is still not the best. He was discharged from the hospital yesterday. So we haven’t had time to talk to him properly. He’s still in a lot of pain. We’re hoping we will see him and get instructions on the way forward.”

Mathe said he didn’t have the details of the injuries Jabu suffered.

“We know he was complaining of chest pains but obviously there might be more he will tell us. We saw him briefly and he had taken some medication, so we didn’t get much time with him,” he said.

According to reports, Jabu fled the scene of the accident as he was scared for his life after hitting a taxi. However, Mathe rubbished the reports.

“He didn’t run away and he wasn’t drunk. We will give you more details later. We are going to see him later and if he’s in a position to talk to us,” he said.

The people involved in the accident were taken to hospital.

Ekurhuleni Metro cop spokeswoman Kelebogile Thepa said two vehicles were involved in the accident and 12 people were injured.

“Two vehicles were in the accident, a Toyota minibus and a BMW Sedan. Twelve people were injured, 11 sustained slight injuries, while one sustained serious injuries.”

She said a case has been opened against Jabu.

“A case of reckless and negligent driving is opened every time there are serious injuries or fatalities. The investigation determines the negligence of any of the involved parties.”
