AWARD-WINNING rapper AKA has spoken out for the first time since his fiancee Anele “Nelli” Tembe fell to her death in Cape Town.

The rapper, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, sat down with host Thembekile Mrototo and revealed explosive details about his relationship with his late fiancee.

In the interview, which trended hours before it premiered, the rapper spoke about the challenges they experienced as a couple, Anele’s mental health and how he wants clarity on the police inquest that was opened after Anele fell from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel building.

Commencing the interview, AKA, who recently took a step back from scheduled performances and his duties as a brand partner with Cruz Vodka, recalled how after having a great time together during the day, he and Anele decided to discuss some of the issues they had been fighting about that week.

“We sat down, we spoke and naturally we started disagreeing again, arguing and things got heated to a point where it went into the early hours of the morning. At one point I decided it would be best if I removed myself from the situation,” he said.

AKA said things got worse and Anele took her ring off and threw it at him and they said mean things to each other. After that, he said, things took a turn for the worse and Nelli threatened to kill herself.

“Anele threatened to kill herself, to jump off the balcony and I called reception for security, and I removed myself from the situation again. I think maybe out of panic, I didn’t want to be there so I went to the bathroom and when I came out of the bathroom, she wasn’t in the room. I looked around the room and she wasn’t there. I went to the balcony and looked down the street and that’s where she was,” he said.

After recounting what had happened in the room before Anele fell, AKA also spoke about the abuse allegations, which surfaced a few weeks ago where one of Anele’s friends alleged that AKA was abusive towards her and leaked images and videos to the press of an incident that apparently took place a few weeks before Anele died.

AKA denied being abusive towards Anele and said he is not an abuser.

“I know that I am not an abuser, I would never abuse Anele. I treated her like gold. She was my everything and still remains my everything,” he said.

The rapper said the day Anele jumped out of the hotel building, it was not the first time she had threatened to kill herself.

AKA said on the same day that the leaked videos were taken, she had threatened to jump out of a moving car. He also said that his late fiancee had a mental condition she was taking medication for and does not understand why her father denied it on the day of her funeral.

Anele’s father said his daughter was neither suicidal nor did she commit suicide. He said that as South Africans we must deal with the scourge that bedevils the youth, which is alcohol and drug abuse as there is a serious problem with substance abuse.

Responding to the substance abuse allegations, AKA said he’s used drugs before, but on the day that Anele died, he was not on drugs.

He said he couldn’t speak on Anele’s behalf whether she was on drugs as she was not there to speak for herself.

“Have I tried drugs before, yes I have,” he said.
