SHE portrays the role of Hlelo, a young woman who is haunted by her past demons as she was previously a victim of gender-based violence.
Although Hlelo kept going back to his abuser, she is totally different from Nothando Ngcobo.
The actress said unlike her Uzalo character, she would never stay in an abusive relationship. And, she has encouraged other women to walk away from abuse.
“Don’t stay in an abusive relationship. Walk away; run if needs be,” said Nothando.
Growing up in Unit 6 in Hammarsdale, KZN, Nothando said she never thought she would one day be celebrated.

“I come from humble beginnings. Being celebrated is a challenge for me because I don’t want people to see me differently. I’m a human being, just like them. But when people watch you on TV, they treat you like a different person. I don’t want to change. I’m Nothando, who still hangs out with the same friends and lives with her family. I don’t want fame to get into me,” said Nothando.
She added that since her gig in the SABC 1 soapie, many doors had been opening up for her.
“I’ve landed the role of Prudence on Lingashoni. It’s been amazing and I have won my first award for Best Actress in a TV/movie at the Rustenburg Film Festival. Things are looking good and I will forever be grateful to Uzalo for introducing me to the industry,” she said, adding that her dream was to grow in the industry.
