YOLA Plaatjie is over the moon to be part of e.tv’s hospital drama series.
The 27-year-old, who plays Dr Nangamso Jack, joined Durban Gen a few months ago and this is her first big break into TV.
She spoke to SunBuzz about joining the show.
“There are days where I still don’t believe this is my life. It feels amazing. I’m living my dreams and prayers. I think manifesting, writing things down and setting your mind to something, helps because they really happen. I’m excited to see what the future has in store for me,” she said.
Yola said breaking into the industry has been tough for her.
“Professionally, it’s been hard. Getting into the acting space in South Africa is hard. I started off doing short films and that led me to get the gig on Durban Gen. I was getting small roles here and there. It is great to finally get here,” she said.

She also spoke about her role of Dr Jack and said she enjoys playing the character because of her beliefs.
“Dr Jack is a sweetheart. She’s different from all the other interns. She is not competing with anybody. She is genuinely there to help people, listen to their problems and diagnose them. She’s calm and believes in peace,” she said,
Yola, who recently had a storyline with Tina Jaxa, who starred as her mum on the show said: “Acting alongside mam’ Tina was mind blowing. I don’t know how to explain it. I grew up watching her on TV. Getting the opportunity to work besides her was a big thing for me.
“Dr Jack will be falling in love but I can’t say with who. People will enjoy seeing her in that element,” said Yola.
