CHIEF operating officer of the Ingoma Awards, Thabang Mnisi used the event to surprise his girlfriend with a marriage proposal on Saturday, 23 October.
Thabang, the host of Moja Love’s Hallelujah, proposed to Dineo Mahabuke at the awards held in Rispark, Joburg.
Speaking to Daily Sun, he said he wanted to bring together the two things he loved the most, the music industry and Dineo.
“The music industry is my passion. I have been here for more than 20 years. It’s my first love and I am who I am because of this industry I have given my life to,” he said.
“Music has one half of my heart and there comes this woman to occupy the other half. I wanted to propose in a space that made me who I am and changed my life.
“I proposed in front of my colleagues, kings, people I serve and the stage I have built.
“I couldn’t be happier.”

Thabang said the theme of the awards was perfect for his proposal.
“This year, our theme was #TheBeginning and that’s because it was the eighth year of the awards.
“Biblically, eight means the beginning. I proposed to someone I will be beginning a new journey with,” he said.
The two have been together for less than two months but they said they knew they were right for each other.
“I knew I would marry her the first time I saw her. It’s only a month and a few weeks but I didn’t want to waste her time,” he said.
“I didn’t have to wait for years to study her to know if she was really the woman I wanted to be with. I don’t regret making the decision and I will not be looking back.”
Thabang said he would pay lobola in November and the wedding would be in December or January.
