SOUTH Africa’s newest record label 1020 cartel, owned by musician Sjava and record producer Ruff Nkosi, has released their much-anticipated collaborative album, iSambulo.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Anzo who is part of this collective, album said: “iSambulo is a collective album that is strongly influenced by tradition.
“It has a variety of sounds. It’s a hip-hop, Afro-soul and African trap album.”
The talented musician said working on the album was an amazing experience for him.
“Working on the album was challenging in a good way, because I was challenged to step out of my comfort zone and work with other artists doing other genres.
“It was also educational, because I got a chance to work with a maskandi artist and got to learn more about the genre, which is something that has been on my bucket list for a very long time,” he said.
While songstress Nue Sam, who also features on the album, said she hopes the album changes people’s lives.
“The album has a strong message that it is going to put across and I hope people are going to learn a lot, because it tells stories that I believe many people are going to relate to.
“I hope it gets to have a positive impact in people’s live and it touches them in a way that their lives changes for the better,” she said.
The 21-year-old KZN-born star said working on iSambulo was nothing but a pleasure.
“Personally, I did not encounter any challenges musically, everything was properly planned and I had a great time in studio,” she said.
The musicians said the album is going to be a game changer.
“The album is going to offer a lot of versatility, poetry, traditional elements, and a lot of stories because at the end of the day music is about storytelling.”
