THE decision to cast musician Sjava in smash hit show Uzalo has apparently caused drama at the SABC.

This is because the singer has been accused of rape.

Sources told Daily Sun the SABC wanted his role scrapped because of the allegations.

“The SABC has issued instructions to have Sjava’s character scrapped from the show because it’s not comfortable with having him on its biggest show, especially after the rape allegations,” said one source.

“When he joined the show there was much fanfare, but that has changed because the top bosses at the SABC want him out.”

Another source said the SABC felt it would not be good for the broadcaster’s image.

The star, whose real name is Jabulani Hadebe, grabbed headlines when he joined the SABC1 show.

But a third source said his character won’t be on the show for long.

Since allegations of rape surfaced against the star, he’s lost several gigs and many companies have distanced themselves from him.

Sjava didn’t respond to calls or texts from the SunTeam and Uzalo publicity manager Nomfundo Zondi referred all questions to the SABC.

SABC spokeswoman Mmoni Seapolelo said: “The SABC can confirm that Sjava was on a limited storyline on Uzalo, which will conclude naturally,” she said.
