AFTER working independently for five years, musician Sizwe Alakine has signed a global deal with record label Warner Music South Africa.

The news broke out on Wednesday, 9 February and Sizwe took to social media to celebrate.

Warner Music also released a statement, that Sizwe posted and captioned: “Asbonge.”

The label’s creative lead Garth Brown said they were honoured to be part of the musician’s journey.

“Sizwe has proven himself as a true artiste, who is able to actively capture audiences for just under two decades thus far, with no intentions to slow down anytime soon. We are excited to partner with him as he embarks on a new chapter, venturing into amapiano,” said Garth.

“His ability to effortlessly transition between genres is what the genetic fibre of legends are made of, and we are honoured to be a part of his story,” said Brown.

Sizwe said he was excited to join Warner Music.

“I’ve been looking for the best deal for me and my legacy for the past five years. After all I’ve done independently, I needed to work with a company that could do more for me than I could for myself. Warner has committed to growing both the Reason and Sizwe Alakine brands in ways that no one else could, and I’m excited for the great music and creative we have lined up,” he said.

The award-winning rapper changed his name from Reason to Sizwe Alakine when he joined the amapiano scene.

He started as a hip-hop artist and continued for more than 10 years. Then he shocked his fans and the rest of Mzansi when he hopped onto amapiano.
