SINGER and songwriter Simmy’s debut album has gone gold.
Simmy was surprised with a plaque on Saturday, 21 August, on the Kaya 959 Top 30 with DJ Keyes.
Not only was Tugela Fairy certified gold, but her three singles Ngiyesaba, Ubala and Nawe also went gold, with her hit song Umahlalela being certified platinum.
Her record label Sony Music surprised the singer during an in-studio interview and gave her the plaque. In the video, currently on Kaya 959’s Instagram page, DJ Keyes tells Simmy that he has a surprise and she seems nervous.

They walk out of the studio and are approached by two women who then give the plaque to an emotional Simmy, whose real name is Simphiwe Nhlangulela.
She shared a story about the album cover being her favourite picture because she had done her own make-up.
Simmy also took to social media to thank her fans for their love and support.
“You guys stay loving me! Umahlalela – platinum. Ubala featuring @sunelmusician – gold, Ngiyesaba – gold, Nawe – gold. My debut album Tugela Fairy – gold. To each and every person involved; thank you! @elworldmusic @sonymusicafrica,” she wrote.
Sony Music also congratulated her on the record label’s social media page.
