Veteran actor Sello Motloung has scored himself a new role.

He has joined SABC3’s new telenovela The Estate.

He plays Elias Nkosi, a strict businessman with many vested interests who has travelled the world.

Speaking to SunBuzz, Sello said he was excited when he was called back for the role.

“It has honestly been a lengthy audition process and the relief I got when I got the call back is unexplainable as I was really looking forward to joining the show, as well as taking on this challenge.

“The character is nothing like the roles I’ve played in the past,” he said.

Sello described his character as a loving and caring family man.

“His character has been spoken about a lot on the show, but the viewers haven’t met him yet. I can’t wait for them to meet him as I believe that he will resonate well with them. He wants nothing but the best for his one and only son. He is very hard on him and doesn’t want to see him failing,” he said.

Although he has an extensive career in the acting industry, Sello said that getting into character was not easy.

“The character is Zulu speaking and I’m Sotho, so there was that challenge because I needed to ensure that I do justice to the language and the pronunciation.

“Luckily for me I had an amazing team and they assisted me a lot. You wouldn’t even tell that I am not a Zulu speaking person,” he said.

He said although this is a supporting role, he’ grateful to have landed it, especially now as things are tough in the entertainment industry.

“We live for today and if you get a role on major shows like The Estate, it’s a blessing because a lot of people are not as lucky as you are,” he said.

“Also, I hope that things will change and productions will happen again because when this pandemic hit, things were opening up for our market in terms of reaching a global scale. I hope the productions that were planned are not cancelled indefinitely, but are put on ice until we get to understand the new normal.”
