UKHOZI FM’s Selby “Selbeyonce” Mkhize has joined Imbewu: The Seed.
He will play the role of a receptionist.
An insider said the role will highlight and address issues faced by the LGBTIQ+ community.
“It’s a done deal. He has already signed the contract and has started shooting. He will be playing the role of a receptionist at Ishongololo Oil company. His role will teach people about the LGBTIQ community,” said the source.
“His storyline will focus on sexual identity. It is going to be dramatic, exciting and definitely spike a heated debate across the country. His role is bound to raise questions about the type of society we have in South Africa,” said the source.
According to the source, Selby will start appearing later this month.

“Selby got the role because he’s already in the spotlight, secondly he lives his life openly and he can tackle any issues surrounding LGBTIQ. It’s hoped that his role will enlighten people who are struggling to understand the LGBTIQ community. Hopefully his role will also encourage those living in the closet to come out,” said the source.
The source said that the new company, Ishongololo Oil, will introduce a number of new characters.
“In the next few weeks people will see a number of new characters. Some have already signed with the production but others haven’t signed. The production is still negotiating with them,” said the source.
The show’s publicist Eugene Cele could not confirm or deny this information.
“I have no knowledge of this. But people must keep watching the show. If there’s anything to announce we’ll issue a statement,” he said.
Selby did not answer his phone. He has also failed to respond to text messages.
