AFTER Rhythm City came to an end, a lot of actors were left in limbo not knowing what to do next. And actor Ishmauel Songo was one of them.
But things have changed for the better for the actor, who played Sabelo on the e.tv soapie, as he has scored a leading role in the new Showmax telenovela The Wife.
Speaking up Daily Sun, he said when he was called for the role of Ntsika, he was overjoyed.
“This is because the role came at a time when I needed it the most. A production I had been a part of for seven years had just come to an end. Honestly, it was God’s timing and I couldn’t be happier. I was at the lowest point in my life as I was uncertain of what I’d do next. I was quite comfortable where I was but it was a wake-up call. It has allowed me to spread my wings and open my eyes wider,” he said.

Ishmauel said he felt honoured to be where he is now.
“A lot of people auditioned for this role, but I am the one who is here today and that is all God’s doing,” he said.
About his character, Ishmael said people are going to love Ntsika.
“I brought my own elements to the character. I changed his walk, dyed the hair and made him a bit of a comic. I believe he will capture people’s hearts as he is going to bring that balance as the other brothers are quite serious,” he said.
The show is an adaptation of Dudu Busani-Dube’s Hlomu The Wife book series, which many people have read or are already familiar with.
When asked if he isn’t afraid that people may react negatively towards the show, Ishmael said he believes in the work he has put in.
“I always believe in myself when it comes to performance. I’m certain that people are going to love the show as I’ve brought my A-game,” he said.
The Wife will premiere on Showmax on Thursday, 11 November.
Other cast members include Siyabonga Shibe, Mbalenhle Mavimbela, Zikhona Sodlaka and Thulane Shange.
