RADIO station Intokozo FM, based in Umlazi, south of Durban, has gone offline after protesters vandalised its studio.

The station is located inside Umlazi Mega City, which was looted by protesters who were calling for the release of former president Jacob Zuma.

Station manager Mxolisi Ntanzi said computers, mixers and microphones were looted.

“We were forced to go offline last night when a group of people invaded and started looting stores in the centre. Our station was also affected,” said Ntanzi.

He said that they were forced to alert Icasa, and were going offline as all working equipment had been stolen.

“At the moment, we’re still calculating the cost of the damage and don’t know when we will be back on air.”

Ntanzi appealed to Good Samaritans to donate whatever they could to help get the station back on air.
