FORMER Ukhozi FM station manager and veteran DJ Welcome “Bhodloza” Nzimande will be honoured with a provincial official funeral.

This was announced by KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala.

Bhodloza will be laid to rest in his home town in Richmond today, 20 January, while the funeral service will be held at Sharks Board in Umhlanga, starting at 9am.

Bhodloza died on Friday, 15 January after a short illness.

Zikalala told Daily Sun that Bhodloza was a humble servant and an ambassador of peace.

He said he left an indelible imprint in KZN.

“His record contribution is the stuff of legends, which future generations will do well to emulate. While the pain of the loss of these luminous star is still too hard to bear, his legacy will never be erased from our hearts and minds,” said the premier.

Nzimande family spokesman Zama Nomnganga said everything about the funeral would be conducted by the state.

Bhodloza joined Ukhozi FM in 1978 as a radio presenter, where he spent 19 years behind the mic before becoming station manager for 13 years.

He took early retirement in 2010.

Bhodloza, who also presented SABC1’s Ezodumo with Thuso Motaung, was always praised as the one who developed traditional music on radio.

He presented the maskandi show Sigiya Ngengoma and Vuka Ukhanye Africa breakfast show.

He also played an inyanga called Gonondo Ongabhekeki on the Ukhozi FM radio drama, Yize Uvalo.
