SELF-TAUGHT filmmaker, Ntando Ndlovu, is flying the Mzansi flag high at international film festivals.
The 22-year-old from Alberton, Ekurhuleni, has won awards and received recognition at various international festivals.
Speaking to SunBuzz about how he started, Ntando said: “I had this idea of starting a clothing brand and I thought to advertise it in a different way. Instead of just having models wearing my clothes, I wanted to put a message behind my brand, LOVO Brand. So, I made a short film about my clothes.”
“The film was called The Mulholland Club and that got recognised abroad. It was a finalist at the 4th Dimension Independent Film Festival in Indonesia in April this year.
“It was a semi-finalist at the Cult Movies International Film Festival in UK, in April as well. And it got a nomination for the Red Movie Awards for Best Short Film in France in May. That was my first film and after that success, I knew I had to become a filmmaker.”

He said he then started working on more films. His recent film, Voided, earned him recognition at the Rhode Island International Film Festival in the USA, Madras Independent Film Festival in India, a Golden Wheat Awards for Best Screenplay in Turkey, and WIKI Screenplay contest in US.
“I started writing screenplays and that’s when I wrote Voided. It shines spotlight on people struggling with mental health because people usually overlook them. I recently read a study that a lot of people who struggle with these issues are talented. So I wanted to show the beautiful side of people with mental health issues,” he said.
Ntando said being this successful in film was unbelievable for him.
“I’m only 22 and my work’s already recognised in the US and UK.” Ntando’s now working on a new film titled HER Always & Forever. It will be released in January.
