THE passing of award-winning actor Michael K Williams, who is best known for his role as Omar Little on the HBO drama series The Wire, has sent shock waves across the globe.

Actress Masasa Mbangeni, who worked with the 54-year-old actor who was found dead in his New York City apartment, took to social media to pay tribute to the fallen star.

She described him as a kind man and recalled the time when they worked together on the production of Red Sea and how he would always applaud her for doing well.

“A truly kind man. May you rest in peace, Sir. I had a tiny part in Red Sea, but Michael treated me like I was one of the top six. Would always whisper, well done Sasa, insist they give me the organic vegan food he also ate. Ja neh. Rest well, Bhuti,” she said.

“I will never forget our conversation. I am broken. Rest in power, brother Michael. My condolences, Ma. I wish I was there with you,” he said.

According to the New York Post, Michael was discovered face-down and unresponsive in the dining room of his luxury Williamsburg apartment with what was suspected to be heroin on the kitchen table.

Streaming service HBO has also released a statement and paid tribute to the fallen star.

“While the world is aware of his immense talents as an artist, we knew Michael as a dear friend who was beloved by all who had the privilege to work with him,” the statement reads.
