WHILE 2021 has been a tough year for many, some Mzansi celebs pushed hard to finish school and graduate.
Celebs took to social media to celebrate finally graduating. Some, also received honorary doctorates.
The SunTeam put together a list of celebs who graduated this year.
Shudufhadzo Musida
Miss South African 2020 Shudufhadzo bagged her BA Honours in International Relations from Wits University. She had a special graduation and was invited to graduate at the university while other students graduated virtually. Shudu, who is currently Miss World South Africa, also holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Pretoria.
Mapaseka Mokwele
Former Kaya 959 presenter Mapaseka graduated with a master’s degree from Wits University, where she majored in mathematics. She took to social media to celebrate the milestone. She was supposed to graduate in 2020.
“This grad on its own has been quite a journey. Finished this masters late 2019/early 2020. I chose not to graduate virtually because I wanted to walk across that stage. I worked hard for this and wanted to celebrate fully,” she wrote.
Cedric Fourie
Skeem Saam actor Cedric obtained a degree in management practices from the University of Cape Town. At the time, he told Daily Sun the qualification would help him with his company. The company is called Rough Diamond Entity and it specialises in helping enterprises improve staff morale by offering strategic solutions.
Mmabatho Montsho
Actress and director Mmabatho bagged a master’s degree in Screen and Script Writing. She took to social media to celebrate the accomplishment.
“My cohort actually finished in 2019, but Covid stole our graduation in 2020. We finally got a virtual one this year - it all feels so old and new. Anyway, good things are good things and we got to celebrate my MA. Here’s to forever learning and respecting our craft. Ke ncwadile bafets!” she wrote.

A fair number of media personalities also got honorary doctorates.
Noxolo Grootboom
Broadcast legend Noxolo got an honorary doctorate from Rhodes University for her news reading career that spanned 37 years at the SABC.
Zakes Mda
Author Mda was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Durban University of Technology. DUT Chancellor Nonkululeko Nyembezi said the degree is in recognition of Mda’s exceptional contribution and accomplishments in the world of arts.
Mfundi Vundla
Award-winning TV executive and playwright Vundla was honoured with an honorary doctorate by the University of Pretoria.
Dr Sibongile Khumalo
The late jazz legend, Khumalo, was honoured with a third honorary doctorate in music by Wits University on Wednesday. The degree was accepted by her daughter, Ayanda Khumalo.
Lungelo Gumede
Wax sculptor Lungelo was awarded a doctorate in arts and wax sculpting by Good Shepherd College in KZN in November.
Gospel legend Deborah Fraser became a Doctor of Philosophy in Sacred Music after being honoured by the Trinity International Bible University.
