CONTROVERSIAL maskandi artist Mthandeni “Igcokama Elisha” Manqele is criticised for being afraid to step up to his rival, Khuzani “King Khuba” Mpungose.
This after he and Khuzani were nominated in the category for Best Maskandi in the KZN Entertainment Awards.
Igcokama Elisha surprised many when he announced on Facebook that he would not be part of the awards.
He wrote: “My name is not for playing games. Please, tell that person who put my name on this nonsense and disgusting awards that he/she mustn’t start a war against me.”
- Unimpressed fans responded. Thobani Brain wrote: “The way I love you my hero and love your music and your lifestyle, but you disappoint me when you are scared of other boys. You should’ve asked us to vote for you.”) Sanele Radebe wrote: “It is annoying that you are scared of other boys. “What kind of maskandi king are you, while you don’t have awards? Even Ukhozi FM maskandi presenter Tshatha Ngobe is nominated, that means these awards are not fake.”) Nobuhle Mchunu wrote: “F**k off, you know that Khuzani always defeats you. You are running away.”

When called for comment, Mthandeni told Daily Sun: “I worked hard to build my name and won’t allow anyone to use it inappropriately.”I asked them to remove my name,” he said.
Khuzani, who is also nominated in the KZN Loved Star category, said he welcomed the nominations.
“I hope to win big and don’t fear any challenge. I have my fans behind me,” he said.
The awards’ chairman Xolani Majozi said they welcomed Mthandeni’s decision.
“He has the right to decline the nomination, but we don’t like it when he says bad things about the awards.”
