HEAVYWEIGHT producer Mandla Ngcongwane, better know as Mandla N, is back with a bang.

His company Black Brain Pictures is producing the new telenovela Diepsloot, set to replace Isibaya.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Mandla N said: “I’m very happy we finally got an opportunity, as a black-owned production, to produce a telenovela.

“This is because these time slots are usually given to white production companies, or blacks are forced to co-produce with them.”

Having produced hit dramas such as Lockdown and Vula Vala, among others, Mandla N was excited to work with some of the best stars in the industry.

“I always select people I’ve worked with and those whose work ethic I know like Dawn Thandeka King, who kills every character she does.

“I’m still in the casting stages of the show and holding workshops around Diepsloot so as to understand the people better.”

Telling people’s stories accurately, which is why he spoke to people in the area, took a lot of research.

“There show will only have shacks as it needs to depict the realities of people who live in Diepsloot,” he said.

Diepsloot will start airing on 5 April at 8.30pm.
