FANS of Dumisane “Madumane” Simelane want him back on Ligwalagwala FM.
This comes after the former breakfast show presenter told listeners on Friday 1 January that he had been retrenched by the SABC after 15 years on air.
This didn’t sit well with fans who soon started the hashtag #BringBackMadumane, which started trending over the weekend.
Tonight Mapaputsi Swalala, who started the hashtag, told Daily Sun Madumane’s fans wouldn’t rest until he was back on air.
“We won’t allow Madumane to leave the station. He plays a huge role. He has a show called Masakhane where he helps people who need help,” he said.

“Through the show, he has given people money, bought them groceries and even built houses here in Mpumalanga,” said Tonight.
He told the SunTeam that Madumane also had a show called 100% Mpumalanga Music where he only played artists from the province.
“Since he started that show, many artists have found fame and are heading towards successful careers. An example is Indlovukazi who is featured on Prince Kaybee’s Gugulethu,” he said. Tonight said listeners would boycott the radio station if Madumane left.
“There’s no Ligwalagwala without Madumane. We want him back because he plays a huge role. We’re not saying they must retrench others and put Madumane back. No one must leave,” he said.
Tonight said listeners would be marching from Nelspruit Taxi Rank to the station’s headquarters this week.
“We will submit a memorandum to them. We’ll give them two days. On Friday, we want a response. We want to know when Madumane is coming back or we’ll close down the SABC,” he said.
At the time of going to print, acting SABC spokeswoman Mmoni Seapolelo had not responded to Daily Sun’s request for comment.
