POPULAR channel M-Net has pulled the plug on the telenovela Legacy.
According to the channel, their reason for doing so is because they have learnt that their audience prefers limited series rather than long-running telenovelas.
The discontinuation of the show, which is produced by Tshedza Pictures, comes after a two-year run and shooting of the second season will conclude early next year while the show will air until next September.
In a statement, Nomsa Philiso executive head: programming at the MultiChoice Group said they trying to cater for the needs of their customers who have a keen interest in limited series.
“Our viewership surveys guide us to adapt our content to the evolving needs of our customers. While Legacy is a popular show, our M-Net 101 customers have indicated that they now want more limited series rather than long-running telenovelas.
“The success of our local strategy depends on how well we tune into what our customers would like to see on their screens,” she said.

She added that this is not the end of the relationship with the production company as they have a long-standing working relationship and will continue collaborating on projects.
Also through a statement, Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon, co-owners of Tshedza Productions, said working with M-Net channel 101 has always been a dream for them as a company, and they are thankful to the channel for its incredible support and encouragement in bringing Legacy to life.
“All our writers, crew members and actors have poured their hearts and souls into this project. We applaud MultiChoice Group for continuing to support local content and we look forward to working on other exciting projects in future,” they said.
