THE Miss South Africa organisation has dropped a bombshell.

It has announced that reigning Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane will represent Mzansi at the Miss Supranational competition in July, despite the fact that people were expecting first runner-up Moratwe Masima to go.

The 24-year-old model, ballerina and LLB graduate from KwaSokhulu, Richards Bay, is hoping to bring pride to the country and continent at Miss Supranational, where incumbent Chanique Rabe of Namibia will hand over the crown to her successor.

CEO Stephanie Weil said they were excited about this year’s edition of Miss Supranational.

“We once again call on South Africans to show their support, and we believe she will make us all proud,” it read.

“Covid-19 has forced many events to be postponed, causing confusion around different competitions and when they are set to be held. It is also not uncommon for the same representative to attend more than one international competition during their year of reign, should the dates and timeline allow for it.

“Other former queens, who represented South Africa at more than one international pageant, include Jo-Ann Strauss, Megan Coleman, Tansey Coetzee, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, Marilyn Ramos and Ntandoyenkosi Kunene.”

Another international competition scheduled for this year is Miss World 2021, which was postponed last December due to Covid-19 infections and restrictions.

Miss South Africa 2020 Shudufhadzo Musida has been fast-tracked into the Top 40 at the 70th Miss World competition, set for 16 March, at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
