SOUTH Africa’s biggest talent search competition Idols SA has dumped Gallo Records.
The show announced on Sunday evening that Kalawa Jazmee Records was now its official recording label.
This means season 16’s winner will sign with the label, which has the legendary Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng as one of its directors.
Over the years, the label has discovered some of Mzansi’s hottest artists, including Uhuru, Busiswa and Trompies.

Fans took to social media to share their views. Some said they hoped winners didn’t disappear from the music scene. Many said it was the best thing the show had done.
In a statement, the label said: “We’re excited to bring a Kalawa Jazmee blueprint that has produced new talent that went on to become super stars.
“We’re looking forward to a new intake of University of Kalawa Jazmee students in the form of Idols winners and to create Mzansi’s next star.”
Nomsa Philiso, the director of local entertainment channels at M-Net, said: “The new deal ushers in a new era of entertainment and growth for the Idols SA contestants and this is an exciting partnership.”
“They have proven to be with the pulse of local youth culture and we have no doubt that the Idols SA winner will find a space that will allow them to thrive and conquer the tough music industry.
She thanked Gallo records.
“We also wish to express our gratitude to Gallo Records, who nurtured our previous winners in the past three years with great success.”
