On Sunday, 1 August, 33 contestants were given golden tickets. And, joining the judges, Randall Abrahams, Unathi Nkayi and Somizi Mhlongo as a guest judge was singer, Zwai Bala.
This week’s successful contestants included 25-year-old Aviwe “Aveesono” Sono from Centurion, who sung his composition.
He will be joined by 20-year-old Sinovuyo Mbhele from Ekurhuleni, 27-year-old Phindile Morgets from Pretoria, 23-year-old Capetonian, Thulani Ngcwembe, and 21-year-old Ashley Marutlulle from Johannesburg.

Lady luck was on 27-year-old Songkarabo's side after he fumbled his audition but still got a golden ticket. The judges loved his rich and textured voice and they decided to give him a shot at theatre week.
However, while some celebrated their victories, some left the Idols audition stage disappointed.
Like the first audition of the day, 30-year-old Mr. Siza from Mthatha, Eastern Cape performed a rendition of Margaret Singana’s Mama Tembu’s Wedding and had the judges excited. Unfortunately, he wasn’t given the golden ticket.
Another unfortunate contestant was Elsie from Limpopo who sang of Beyoncé’s I was here and got four nos. Along with 24-year-old Dikeledi Morata from Pretoria, 27-year-old Sarah Thibakhoana from Midrand, and 28-year-old Anzen from Pretoria.
The four weeks of auditions saw Mzansi musicians like Prince Kaybee, Ntokozo Mbambo, Ringo Maldingozi and Zwai Bala sitting in as guest judges. Next week, the real work starts as the contestants head to theatre week.
