IMBAZO has disappeared from the maskandi scene due to his calling.
The 24-year-old dancer, whose real name is Nhlanhla Khumalo, was known for dancing for singers Imfezi Emnyama and Shilisi but stopped in 2017 to become a traditional healer.
Imbazo from Msinga in KZN said for years, fans would ask him why he quit but he didn’t tell the truth.
“I told them it was because I wanted to focus on school, but now I want to come clean about why exactly I stopped,” he said.
“After dancing for Imfezi for years, I was focusing on school and wasn’t that interested in maskandi music anymore but still worked with him.
“I saw I couldn’t finish school because I had a calling. I would have bad dreams and visions. I started having anxiety and scary dreams about lions and rivers. I didn’t know what was going on but realised I had a calling.”

Imbazo said he went to initiation school and stopped dancing completely.
“After I finished my journey of intwaso, I wished to go back and dance but idlozi didn’t want me to. I was very active on stage and audiences loved me.
“Some even tried to tell Imfezi to bring me back to the industry and he tried, but I couldn’t return.”
He said he enjoyed being a traditional healer. “There are things on my shoulders and it requires me to understand the way of the ancestors, but I’ll be fine. I have students and I help people. It’s been a good journey.”
