THE nominees for this year’s South African Traditional Music Awards have been announced in Mbombela, Mpumalanga on Saturday, 25 September, where over 100 musicians were honoured.
The night saw performers such as Big Zulu, Afrotraction, Mduduzi Ntuli, Thabo Summary, Sindi Myeni and cultural groups taking the stage to entertain the crowd.
A few changes were made to the categories in this year’s awards.
Best Newcomer was changed to Best Up-and-coming Artist/Group.

Four more categories were introduced, including Cultural Affairs Chief Director, Best Traditional Producer, Best Traditional House Music Song and Best Traditional Collaboration Song.
Nominees included Sjava, Khavisa and 100% Ncobela for Best Male Artist/Group, while the Best Female Artist/Group nominees are Candy Tsa Mandebele, Q Twins and Mmadintsi.
Best Afro Soul Song nominees are Rato Laka by Motlanalo, My Yoki Yoki by Vhudie Baby, Musa Kuyenza Lento and Mc Records KZN.
The Best Traditional Music Artist/Group of The Year nominees are Roots 2000 for Nomasundu, Candy Tsa Mandebele for Still Here, Vendaboy Poet for Ndahuko, Ichwane Lebhaca for Amagupta, Nomtiti 8 for Motlhala Wa Rona, Ngezaka Dlaw’mbana for Ukhona Umbango, Hennie De Bruyn En Die Kitaarkerels for Warmvat Kitaar, and Vho-Thaela for Ndi Ngani Africa.
