RADIO personality and Idols SA judge Unathi Nkayi has been dropped as the host of this year’s GQ Men of The Year Awards.
The magazine announced the news on its social media platforms on Tuesday, 23 November, saying that it was due to unforeseen circumstances.
The awards are set to take place on Saturday, 27 November, at Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff in Joburg.
“It is with regret that singer-songwriter, businesswoman, entertainer and reality show judge @unathi.co will no longer be joining us for our event due to unforeseen circumstances. We look forward to working with Unathi in the future,” read the statement.
Social media users were left speculating that this decision was made because she was recently fired from Kaya 959, where she was hosting Midday Joy.

Last week, the radio station released a statement announcing that Unathi’s contract had been terminated with immediate effect.
“Unathi’s contract has ended prematurely due to certain conduct that rendered the relationship intolerable going forward. Kaya 959 can confirm that certain incidents had occurred, which resulted in the breakdown of the trust relationship between the two parties. The business can further confirm that due process was followed and the decision was therefore made to part ways with Unathi,” the station said in a statement.
A source told Daily Sun last week that Unathi had an altercation with a fellow DJ from another show, and that video footage as well as witnesses suggested that she might have been in the wrong.
The DJ turned out to be Sizwe Dhlomo, who has been speaking out about the issue on his social media platforms.
