SINGER Bongi Gladness is now mixing gospel with dancing styles of amapiano to accommodate the youth.
The singer, who has been in the music industry since 2007 as a backing vocalist for the late Lundi Tymara and Sechaba Padi, said her music was comforting and healed souls.
Bongi, whose real name’s Sibongile Mothiba, told SunBuzz the journey had been tough but she kept pushing until 2008 when she released her debut album, Mphahamise.
The 39-year-old from Silverlakes in Tshwane said she started singing praise and worship songs, and then decided to include another genre to accommodate young people.

In 2012, the singer who’s originally from Welkom in Free State released her second album, Kgetho. She released her single Sabela in May, which is a mixture of gospel and amapiano.
Bongi Gladness said: “The single has been well received by my fans.” She said the song inspired the youth to answer to their calling and not lose hope, even during the hardships brought on by the pandemic.
“I don’t see myself leaving gospel because I don’t do music for money. This is a calling for me, and I’ll continue serving God with my beautiful voice.”
The third-year theology student at Faith Bible College said she wanted to preach the word of God and heal people.
She said being a Christian had changed her life – from poverty to a better life. Bongi is also a fashion designer, and has a clothing brand.
She is the chief operating officer of Eminent Video Music Awards, that were launched in March, to celebrate music videos for different artists in South Africa.
