Award-winning singer and songwriter Cici has released her much anticipated studio album Sukulila.
It has been four years since the singer has released a full project and she’s now back to reclaim her spot in the music scene.
Cici, whose real name is Busisiwe Thwala, told SunBuzz the album would take people on a journey.
“With the project, I am turning a new leaf on life and a chapter, and it takes take people on a journey of my personal experiences and I believe that people will resonate well with it, because one way or another, we have shared a similar experience,” she said.
The 34-year-old singer said working on the album has been a roller-coaster ride.
“I had writer’s block for four months and then we experienced Covid-19, which also caused a major setback and was discouraging, because at some point it felt as if we are creating music that we will never get to perform for fans due to the restrictions,” she said.

“But I am glad that I experienced all of them because it formed the kinds of songs that are in the album as I took all the emotions I was experiencing at the time and put them into song.”
The Ladysmith-born musician also shared that some of the songs were inspired by the love she shares with her husband, about whom she seldomly posts on social media.
About why she chose to do so, she said it was because that was her safe space.
“I am not hiding the fact that I am with him, I just choose not to share, because when you are in the public eye, people will have many opinions about you and also I feel like there are certain things in your life that you need to protect, especially the things you care about,” she said.
The singer, whose album is currently climbing up the charts, shared with SunBuzz that there was still more she hoped to achieve.
“I still have more desire to grow and there is a lot more that I still want to achieve as I am always shifting the goalpost just to challenge myself,” she said.
The album’s title track Sukulila was produced by the likes of Ndumiso Mdletshe, Siphephelo Hlatshwayo, Ndivhuwo Mudimeli and Sakhile Manqele.
