SINGER and songwriter Azana has released her debut album, Ingoma.
This is a new high for the genre-bending hitmaker, whose real name is Makhosazana Masango.
Speaking to SunBuzz, Azana said: “Ingoma, which directly translates to song, is an album where I express myself and reveal my true self.”
“It’s inspired by real life situations and situations I’ve come across, which I believe people will find relatable.”
Azana moves to her own beat and wades through neo soul, Afro pop and house with ease.
She said working on the album was an exciting journey.
“Working on the album has been very fulfilling for me,” she said.
“It was my first time working on a project that’s not just a song.
“I’ve put my heart and soul into the project, and I believe people are going to enjoy it because the album has a variety of songs that speak to every situation.
“People have been responding positively towards my music. It’s been great to witness that.”
But Azana, who’s inspired by the likes of Camagwini, Simphiwe Dana and Letta Mbulu, said she had to learn some lessons.
“One of the lessons I learnt was not to rush things because everything has its time and place.
“That’s why I took my time and planned my album.”
